First Steps to Take to Run Your Own Political Campaign

Nominee’s goal is to empower a new generation of political leadership by providing the support historically muted groups need to run themselves, manage a campaign for a candidate they’re passionate about, or advocate for a cause they want to champion. Campaign 101 is our first full course aimed at that goal. It consists of more than 50 instructional videos, 80+ downloadable templates, guides, and other practical resources that you can use to launch your own campaign from day one. In the coming weeks, we’ll spotlight what kind of content is included in each part of Campaign 101.

Our first course is called “Getting Started.” It’s curated and taught by Nominee’s own Chief Political Officer, Katie Prisco-Buxbaum. Aside from leading our course development, she was Campaign Manager for Andrea Campbell’s Boston mayoral campaign, Jesse Mermell’s campaign for the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District, and managed Campbell’s heralded first campaign for Boston City Council in 2015, which led to the defeat of 32-year incumbent Councilor Charles Yancey.

Oh yeah, and Katie also served in senior finance roles for United States Senator Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign, and Senator Harris’s 2016 U.S. Senate campaign.

We could go on, but basically Katie knows how to run a campaign from beginning to end. And she’ll share what she knows in Campaign 101's first chapter, "Getting Started."

Here’s a clip on just some of different approaches you can take to launching your campaign:

Beyond that, in Getting Started she'll cover:

  • Confirming your eligibility to run for office and the steps required to file your candidacy

  • Ballot access best practices and common mistakes

  • Deciding when and how to announce your candidacy

  • Examples of potential launch tactics you might use, including press events, kick-off rallies, and online launches

  • Key materials to prepare ahead of your launch

  • Step-by-step guide to executing a successful campaign launch

  • How to create your campaign budget and set fundraising goals

  • Understanding campaign compliance and the role of your treasurer

  • Building your network of supporters, donors, and volunteers

2024 has just begun and so can your political journey. Katie and the rest of our Campaign 101 course have the knowledge you need to kick start it.
