How to Build A Winning Team Behind Your Political Campaign

Last week we previewed the first chapter in our Campaign 101 course, “Getting Started,” all about what you need to know before launching your campaign and up to publicly announcing it.

A campaign focuses on the qualities of one candidate, but that candidate cannot run a successful campaign without the support of a strong team behind them. So naturally, our second course is called “Building Your Team.”

It’s anchored by instructional videos by Rory Welsh, a political professional currently working in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. His background is in campaigning and elections, previously having worked as Campaign Manager for Jeremy Hunt during his tenure as Chancellor. He has also provided political consultancy for private companies, NGOs, politicians, and prospective candidates.

Rory knows more than a thing or two about how to build a winning team, and that starts with the most important role within it: the campaign manager. In two videos, he’ll speak to what makes an effective candidate and how the campaign manager enhances that candidate, as well as what to look for in a campaign manager. Here’s a clip:

But there’s more to a winning team than just the campaign manager. So in Campaign 101’s Building Your Team course, you’ll also learn:

  • Understanding your role as the candidate vs the role of your campaign manager

  • Qualities to look for in a campaign manager and how to evaluate candidates

  • The most common staff roles on a campaign, and sample job descriptions for each

  • How to effectively delegate tasks to your campaign manager and staff
